今月は、シンガポールから国外に一歩も出る予定がない。フェリーにも飛行機にも乗らない月は、14ヶ月ぶり。シンガポール国内の、ずっと気になっていたモノたちに会いに行く時間だ。
For the first time in the past 14 months, I am not travelling out of Singapore. It's time for me to go check out the new places around the city.
ローカルブランドMatter Printは、インドの職人さんたちと協力し、古くから伝わる染色技術と新しいデザインを融合させながら、南国暮らしに最適なパンツやスカーフを生産している。サイトには、生地がどこから来て、どこで誰がどうやって生産しているのか細やかに記されている。そしてなにより、デザインが最高。でもオンラインショップでしか展開されていないパンツ、試着しないで買うのにはまだ抵抗があった。
Matter Prints is a local brand that procduces amazing garments with the artisans in India. I've been really curious about these awesome pants for a long time. Someone needs to invent a new technology to try on pants virtually.

そしたら期間限定のショップでこのMatter Printsの商品が取り扱われているらしいと。すぐに向かったのはサマーセット駅目の前のKEEPERS: Singapore Design Collective。2月15日まで、シンガポールのローカルデザイナーたちのアイテムを手に取ることができる。Matter Printsのように、店舗が無かったり、オンラインでしか展開していないブランドもあるので、こうやって広くて見やすいスペースでコレクションを全部眺められるのは貴重なのだ。期間限定なんてもったいなすぎる。こういう場所こそ必要なのに！！
Then I found out there is a pop-up shop on Orchard road that is currently carrying Matter Prints pants. It was time for me to close my laptop to touch and feel the products. I want to make sure I emphasize this: KEEPERS should NOT be a popup. It should stay there.
アパレル以外にも見るものがたくさんあったのだけど、In Good Companyの服は写真で見るよりさらにかわいくて、細かいところもきちんと作られていて、素材も美しかった。やっぱり手に取って試着して買うのは楽しい。この国の人たちが作ってるモノに袖を通す。大量生産されてない服を着る。そんなに高価では無いのに特別な気持ちになれる。
There was a lot for me to explore in this little shop. The collection from In Good Company looked and felt better in person than on the website. I loved the details and the materials were pretty nice. There is a special feeling when I am wearing something that was designed by someone local. It somehow feels nicer to wear things that you know where it came from.
フワっと軽量でサラサラした素材のパンツ。今年はこればっかり履くかもしれない。

それからもう１つ、シンガポールに素敵な場所が誕生した。

The Projectorは、廃墟と化していた映画館をクラウドファンディングの力を駆使して蘇らせたインディペンデント映画館。本当に本当に待っていたよ、こういう場所を。
The Projector is a new independent film theater that was once an abandoned movie theater. The theater went through a renovation with a help from crowdfunding. How 2015 is that?

昨日は、自分の好きな金額を寄付してシンガポールのインディ映画を観られる日だったのだけど、ものすごい数の人たちが観に来て、階段や床にまで人が溢れるように座っていたのが感動的だった。クラウドファンディングで支援したプロジェクトを、支援した人たちみんなで楽しむリアルな場があるって2015年っぽい。
There were so many people that came to see the two local independent flims that we had to sit on the stairs, but I have nothing to complain.
上映された２作品も、今のシンガポールを内側から観た良い作品だった。"DAHDI"はシンガポールの小さな離島、ウビン島を舞台にしたショートフィルムだったのだけど、あの島特有の空気が匂ってくるほど現実的に描かれていた。もう一度観たいし、もう一度あの島に行きたい。
I would love to watch "DAHDI" again. I could smell the air from Pulau Ubin just by watching the film. I have to visit the island again.

新しい映画館、エレベーターがいいなと思ったら、前に働いていたアートギャラリーのキュレーター、Mojokoのコラージュ作品だった。最高。
The elevetor at the Projector is amazing and of course it is by Mojoko, the artist and the curator of Kult gallary. I miss working there.
